Stopped for the Sunday brunch when on the road. Wanted to eat brunch because I was hungry and needed the meal to last for a day. For 14 bucks I was expecting better, but not the case. Standard fare, nothing exciting in the warmers. It was about 10:30am, so the food was fresh and the parking lot almost empty, save for a couple of cop cars and an SUV or two. Was seated promptly, and had a good, attentive waitress.

We almost didn't stop due to the bad reviews but glad we did. Cause of the low rating we decided to just have drinks and appetizers to tie us over until we could make it to the real Black Woods in Duluth. Service was great and food was good. No complaints. But keep in mind this was for the bar section and not the restaurant.

I have ate twice at this location before and it was OK.... Not like the Black Woods of Duluth that is my favorite place too have a great meal with Friends and family. I showed up at 6:30pm on a Friday evening thinking there was not a chance too get a seat within a hour but the parking lot was empty and I said cool... it should have been my first sign of things too come.. I walked in and the tables were 50% occupied and I was seated quickly and offered the menus. I next 10 min i waited with my hungry son to see if there was someone coming to see if we wanted too order something. It gets better... The staff that out numbered the customers at this point they were jetting in and out the backroom making excuses to other customers about the service. Well I have been there 20 min now with no order taken and then the spark happen a waiter came close to my table and asks what we would like, I start too order the for my son and after the waiter not listening to me at all he repeats the order back too me as if i had not said nothing it was all wrong. I get that fixed and start to speak about what I would like and he sticks his pad in his apron and walks away.. Really Now I am looking around for some kind of camera show.... This hast to be a set up... I look at my son and say we are out of here... I ask the person up front if our waiter is OK and pull out 5 bucks for the 2 cokes and our waiter runs over and asks if I will need any change? Really I was in the twilight zone.... I told him what was up and just shock my head and left.... If I was Black Woods management I would take my name off that building. Its ruining your brand because it is making me rethink all my visits to any of there locations. If I am dropping 100$ on a meal with friends I need too know that there is a good chance of a great experience. This is the worst experience I have ever had in my life. No Kidding I love Two Harbors I want a good place to go without having too drive back too Duluth.

We had breakfast here on New Year's Day. It wasn't great. The french toast was white bread that looked like it was thrown into the egg flipped over and brought out. The oatmeal was more like quick oats--very average. No one was at the host station when we arrived and the waitress had to come up to seat us. Could be limited help on New Year's . Won't go back.

We stop here when we are heading to thunderbay or grandmarais. The bar has a great selections the food is not too good. The burgers are normally dry and over cooked. The staff and service is great. We are always seated right away and they check on you all the time. I rate this place a 3 star because the service and the bar.. the appetizers are good. The menu is very large and they seem to have pasta and meat and all types of food. they may do better if they focused on one type of food. This place is at a convenient location and it is the main reason why so many people stop here..

Wow! What a tragic disappointment. Our family of four walked in on a Friday night and were seated right away. That was the highlight of the experience. The menu is huge, obviously too large for them to do any one thing well. My kids had burgers, they were a bit dry and overdone. I had their new pasta special and it was awful. Considering I had asked the waitress for her recommendation, I was hoping it would at least be palatable, but I left most of it on my plate. I know they are known for their steaks, but they were so overpriced I just didn't want to take the risk. The staff was poorly trained and inattentive. The few times they made it to the table (it was not busy), they left behind dirty dishes and didn't notice empty beverage glasses. One server was at least busy busing her station but considering that we got a generous shot of her bare backside while she was doing it I hate to offer that up as a compliment.

The drinks we ordered were large and tasted like they were made well. Plum mojito could have gone very wrong, but I really enjoyed it. The food was good, service as expected - we would try it again.

This is on the way to Duluth for us so we have stopped by here a number of times. And we never know what kind of visit it will be. Sometimes the food is fine and the service is "unhurried." Sometimes the service is very pleasant and the food is on its way back to the ktichen for another try. The one on London Road in Duluth is consistently good; this one: not so much. If you like gambling, give it a try.

If you are on your way up the north shore and are passing through Two Harbors it is one of your better options. It has a dining area and a bar. The bar is quaint and nice. The service was good and the food was about what you would expect. Small town feel and a quiet place to eat.

We've eaten at the Black Woods in both Duluth & Two Harbors. The food is quite good and there's something to please everyone - steaks, burgers, pasta, etc. For both visits I ordered the vegetarian "burger" made with a house-made wild rice veggie patty. I highly recommend these if you like that sort of thing. So much better than the lame soybean patty some places pass off as a veggie option and it's nice that they make them with local wild rice. The sweet potato fries are yummy, but for a $2 up-charge they shouldn't be so skimpy with the portion.

We had taken an excursion train trip from Duluth one Sunday. Part of the package included being dropped off downtown, so we gave Black Woods a try. Considering that we descended on them with a small crowd, and that they probably have a regular Sunday following, we were seated right away. The food was very good and the service was quite attentive. Too bad we live in southern California.

Oh my, had the Lake Superior White Fish, also a Castle Danger Cream Ale. So good. Wait staff very professional.

Had the Bulldog Bites for appetizer; quite good! Unfortunately the meal went downhill from there. BBQ ribs - average; potatoes were dry Walleye sandwich was okay. Ciabatta bread was toasted and added a spark but the sliced tomato and lettuce were slapped on. Kids had Mac and cheese as well as grilled cheese. I wasn't tempted to finish off either (Mac and cheese was out of a box). Margarita flatbread was a bit salty but was tasty. Pepper House Burger sounded good but was absolutely raw in the middle. Had it taken off the bill. Three stars might be generous.

Pros : Our server was very nice, not too distant, not too overly present. The food came out fast and was OK. Cons : Where do I start? The floors were very noticeably dirty. They weren't busy, there were employees standing in the back talking instead of obviously cleaning. The bathrooms smell of urine & need to be updated. The wallpaper is peeling off everywhere and there are even giant pieces ripped off leaving exposed wall. The child's menu is far too expensive for what it is. When the pasta with marinara sauce came out it was very spicy. What child do you know who likes spice? Not my 3 year old! And to top it all off, I found at least three hairs inside of my burger. The server was very nice when I pointed it out and asked if I would like another. I hesitated and accepted the offer. The slap in the face was the fact that the burger was not comp'd on our final bill. So, in the end, we ate in a dirty little restaurant that is trying to be upscale, hence the overly priced mediocre food, paid for a $8 child's meal only for our daughter to eat the fries, found someone else's hair in my food and still had to pay for the horrible experience. Although the food was not uneatable, I would definitely skip this location. We regret making this decision and wished we would have just eaten at Subway.

Love this place! It's our go-to place when we go to Two Harbors. We've eaten everything from apps to steak and seafood. It's flavorful and delicious!

Moscow Mule was quite good. Seemed to have an eclectic cocktail menu. Our friends enjoyed their wine. Everyone in our group of ten enjoyed their entrees. I had a pasta dish. Can't recall exactly what, but I recall liking it. Recommended, if in TH.

Ribeye was very good, sirloin was very good, pasta was very good, they need to work on sides now. A good wedge with the ribeye would have made it wonderful. Broiled ribeye compared with tops in the twin cities.

Not a great experience from any perspective. I had the meatloaf, which was.... insanely huge, like enough red meat for a family of six, and strange in texture, flavor... well, it was strange in every way. It had the texture of a pressed meat patty that you would get at a hospital cafeteria. The flavors were bland aside from the glaze which was super sweet so, yeah. It was odd. And not delicious. I also tasted the cornbread that came with the ribs and found it to be more of a light and fluffy corn... cake(?), which was also super sweet and just really not actually cornbread. Also they have root beer on their draft beer menu and when I asked if it was hard root beer, the waitress replied yes and brought me one; she then offered the same root beer to my mother who wanted a non-alcoholic soda. I clarified, and she then admitted that she hadn't actually known what the word "hard" meant when referring to beverages, and that no, it was not hard root beer. Overpriced, sub standard food. Bizarre ambiance that didn't really work for me. Won't come back here.

I don't understand why this has a 2.5 star rating. Everything was wonderful! The London burger was delicious!

The evening before Grandma's Marathon we drove the course and decided to have dinner at Black Woods in Two Harbors which is near the start of the race. it was 8:00 pm so we were able to get a table fairly quickly although the restaurant was still crowded with athletes and their families. I had an excellent local beer chosen from several the restaurant offered. They had a pasta special for the race which my son had. I enjoyed a nicely prepared roasted white fish from the nearby great lake. Hostess and server were both friendly. All in all it was a good dining experience.

Had late lunch on the patio yesterday with my husband a two friends. I LOVE that they're dog friendly, and our server even brought a bowl of ice water for my dog. The service was a little slow, but the beer, cheese curds, wild rice burgers, and nachos were really good (pesto on nachos? Amazing!) as were the pita chips with salsa and their tasty agate sauce. I'll definitely go back and eat there again!

We stopped into Black Woods by chance when our car broke down in Two Harbors and had an amazing experience with their customer service. They were willing to let us sit with our dog on the patio and even brought her out a bowl of water. After great service and some onion rings, the manager even offered to give us a ride to Duluth so the people coming to pick us up wouldn't have to drive quite as far. Seriously, so nice. The food and drinks were great, too. We'll definitely be back. Thanks Jared and Justin!

Honestly after reading the reviews I wanted nothing to do with Black woods. However in Two Harbors at ten pm there are few options. Not that I am a food snob but I am pretty picky. To my fiancé and my surprise the experience was excellent. The service was great, the waiter made good suggestions and the food was phenomenal. We ordered an appetizer, drinks, and main courses. Would highly recommend this restaurant get a second look by people.

Nice location. Terrible service. Took so long to get a beer, figured we would go elsewhere for food. Glad we did! Took 20 mins to get our bar tab. Really too bad, such a nice place...what a waste.

If you're travelling between Duluth and Grand Marais, keep driving! Chicken pesto flatbread pizza...served late and cold, pretty much cheese and chicken on a cracker. Kids meal walleye was a highlight. They had a veggie option that was more than the usual Sysco veggie medley, actually sauteed and quite not bad. Walleye was fresh and flaky, not overly breaded. Way better than the adult food. Service was nice and accommodating, though food came slooow. I'd definitely hit the DQ across the street instead next summer.

We decided to give the place a shot in spite of some of the negative reviews. I had the pepper cheese burger and my wife had the firehouse burger. My burger was breaded and deep fried. Led to a juicy burger but not a lot of other flavor to recommend it. The firehouse burger was delicious. Waffle fries were some of the best we've ever had, nicy and crispy which is how we like them. Service was excellent with an engaging server that was responsive to our questions and needs.

Awful service, awful food, awful choice! My family of four dined here while on a family vacation. We arrived at 5:15 and didn't get food until 6:30 - not even the kids' meals! I had broiled walleye, and might I just say, it is a shame a fish died for that meal. Leathery and small and overpriced. The seafood pasta was laughable with hardly any seafood at all (very small indistinguishable bits), the kids' Mac n cheese was Kraft (for $8!!) and kids' burger tough. Inattentive and slow service to boot.

Location is in a great spot as it is right off the main road through Two Harbors. There is a nice little patio and indoor seating. Food is ok. I don't think the food at any of locations, whether Two Harbors, Duluth or Proctor, is anything special. My husband and I would stop at one of their locations as my husband used to get a certain sandwich, which they no longer have on the menu. Anyways, I ordered the wild rice burger with asiago cheese and it was very good. The patty was actually pretty large and it had great taste. If I ever stopped by any Blackwoods, I would definately order that again. Hubby ordered BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, which to him was nothing special. Each burger was served with waffle fries. Service was great, our waitress constantly refilled our drinks and the we didn't wait longer for our food than we normally do anywhere else.

Yummmmm, yummmmm, yummy! Near the north Shore scenic rail depot, we had dinner at this place and the London broil was superb! Layered over mashed potatoes and red peppers it was a dish to return for!. Very reasonably price at only $18.00. We are considering catering our wedding from here. Everything we ate was delicious!

LOVED Thai chicken flatbread (pesto underneath)! Peanut sauce spicy & flavorful. We sat in bar & as many places the bartender was serving bar tables & making drinks for waiters so service was slow & inattentive. Manager checked on us tho. Will probably try again when up here.

The service was very poor. Ten minutes to get two drinks and when our food was brought we asked for water which we never received. We had lunch there at an off time so it was not very busy but service was still slow. It took 20 minutes for our waitress to bring back our change from the bill. I was not impressed.

  • Jennifer B.

The service was great, the food was not. Albeit the happy hour deals were a plus, $6 apps and 1/2 off drafts. The chicken wings were super over cooked. Overall, a bland experience. Probably wouldn't go back.

This place is solid. Fun drink menu, good food and great patio. I am beginning to fear the Yelp ratings on the North Shore are all crazy! Northern Lights Cafe was terrible and it is rated higher than this place and Betty's Pies....not cool! Here at Blackwoods I had fantastic blackened tilapia tacos and a kick-butt martini! My fiancé is a little more "all American" and ordered the bacon cheese burger and waffle fries (great fries btw) and he thoroughly enjoyed it! Nice large patio and great happy hour too!

Awesome happy hour. 1/2 off taps! $6 apps. We had a great waiter (jaryd) friendly, personable. And, we were able to sit outside and enjoy the great weather. Definitely recommend!

This gem of a restaurant is amazing. From management to staff they never cease to amaze me with their professionalism and kindness. My husband and I did most of our dating dinners there, then he proposed to me there. We had our grooms dinner at "Blackwood's" We are going on our 4th anniversary now. Our families gather at "BW's" for brunch on Easter, Mother's Day and Thanksgiving. Very Very clean and inviting. You MUST try the Champagne Chicken and the Bacon Bleu Burger!! Don't forget to get that thick tasty bacon crispy. Sitting in the bar area is fun too. Walleye, Cobb Salad (bring your appetite) and so many other delicious things. Need something added? Just ask!!

Had the Chicken and ribs combo. Ribs we excellent. Chicken and mashed potatoes where good. We sat in the bar area and Megan took care of us. Don't let the hostess deter you with the lack of charm. Friendly and relaxing. Lots of menu options. Not to mention the BEST CORNBREAD EVER. Keep up the good work Megan.
